American Neoclassical Armoire
American Neoclassical Armoire
Hand forged hook and eye joinery on the interior allow it to be transported in pieces or reassembled after going through a small or tight doorway. The interior is fitted on the left with a make do 18th century box lock. Northern American pine with hand forged nails and screws. Several details make me think it is the work of a Swedish emigre to New York. The keys mount in the locks upside down, and the long hand whittled cloak pegs are common to that region in origin. Scale and proportion are just wonderful, and lend something to the spirit of folksy refinement it captures. If i had the space, this one would be a keeper. I have chosen 5 shades of white and cream and grey in oil alkyd to highlight the details with restraint. I am pleased to offer it. Call for details. Measures 78" H. by 56" W. by 20" D.
